PRODUCT: Fire Risk Assessment, Fire Evacuation Plan, Fire Warden Training – including horizontal and vertical progressive evacuation with a ski evacuation pad.

BACKGROUND:

Riverside Care Complex is two homes, Derwent House and a new purpose-built building, Riverview Lodge. A Fire Risk Assessment was completed on Derwent House and Riverview Lodge.

There is a total of 65 en-suite bedrooms providing residential and nursing care for the elderly in Derwent House and residential care in Riverview Lodge for those living with dementia.

BRIEF:

The original brief from the client was to conduct a Fire Risk Assessment for Derwent House and when the building work was signed off by building control, to also complete one for Riverside Lodge.

SERVICES PROVIDED:

Working in partnership with Sure Healthcare Limited, and the local Fire Authority, the assessments were completed. Areas were highlighted that could be improved and these were quickly addressed. Fire warden training including horizontal and vertical progressive evacuation with a ski evacuation pad with a revised evacuation plan were delivered. A regular training schedule was put in place to deliver courses every 6 months to keep new staff and existing staff up to date with the required training. The training was taken over by in-house training team.

With regular reviews of the Fire Risk Assessment by the in-house maintenance team and ongoing training, this will ensure they meet with legislation under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, appease the Quality Care Commission, their insurance company and provide peace of mind for the family of residents using their services.
